Think of your time at Share – Is there a person who stands out by consistently going above and beyond in their volunteer duties?
A person whose leadership and/or ingenuity has improved the efficiency of a program or service to benefit Share’s clients?
A person whose compassion and friendliness makes Share an ideal place to volunteer? If so, nominate that person for Share’s Volunteers of the Year Award.
Share’s Volunteers of the Year Award committee is looking for personal stories describing the efforts of a dedicated volunteer who has displayed outstanding efforts to foster Share’s mission to serve the hungry and the homeless.
Each year, Share presents our Volunteers of the Year Awards at our ‘Soup’s On’ event (held this year on Sunday, October 11). One of the honorees will be presented with the Emily Marshall Volunteer of the Year Award.

Biography of Emily Marshall
Emily was born in Minnesota and moved to Vancouver at age eight. She worked as licensing agent for both Dick Hannah and Peterson Motors. Emily came to know Share when a friend asked her to come to Share House to help serve meals; as a result of this first encounter, Emily began serving meals one to two times each week for the next few years. Recognizing her commitment to the organization, Emily was asked to become a Share Board member, for which she served 16 years.
In her more than 20 years of service to Share, Emily contributed in numerous ways beyond the Board of Directors: she operated the Mexican food booth at the Clark County Fair, whose proceeds benefited Share; she volunteered for Share’s annual Golf Classic; and she wrapped presents and adopted families for more than eight years.
“Her passion was helping people. She liked Share’s mission and valued the services your organization provided to those in need.”
– Vern Marshall, on Emily’s philanthropic nature
She volunteered her time to other agencies, as well. She volunteered for Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Hospital Auxiliary and, in the year 2006 alone, volunteered 2,380 hours of service to Divine Consign.
