Our community is in need. As the cost of food continues to rise, Hot Meals has experienced a swift and historic increase – 30% in the past two months. From 8,332 meals served in February, 10,624 meals in March and 11,853 meals in April. This surpasses even the increase in need for food assistance during the early months of the pandemic in 2020.
Federal cuts to food and meal programs are increasing costs for all of Share’s meal and nutrition programs, including the Backpack and Fresh Food Pantry programs, which annually distribute 252,000+ lbs. of non-perishable food to 90 schools and Head Start programs and 160,000+ lbs. of fresh produce, dairy, eggs and bread at 18 schools.
