WASHINGTON
Half of Southwest Washington residents don’t have enough money to afford basic necessities like food and housing.
The delay of SNAP benefits to purchase groceries in November left local households struggling to put enough food on their tables. The majority of those affected were seniors, families with children and people with disabilities. This includes thousands of Share’s clients in our housing programs, as well as those who access our Backpack and Hot Meals programs.
Uncertainty at the federal funding level continues to impact daily living – access to food programs, rental subsidies, cost of basic needs (groceries, utilities) and increasing healthcare costs. No person or family should have to decide between groceries or prescriptions, rent or utilities.
