““I first volunteered for this program four years ago and it has become one of my favorite things to do in the community. Whether we are cutting watermelon or putting the meals in the coolers for delivery, everyone works with a smile and a great attitude.” Steve Smith, Share Volunteer
During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch at school. But what happens when school lets out for the summer? Hunger can be a severe roadblock for the learning process and childhood development.
Our program strives to provide fresh, healthy meals that include fruits and vegetables so that the children in our community do not face hunger during the summer months.
All of the locations are open sites and all children ages 18 and under are welcome to come and enjoy a free meal even if they are not enrolled in the program.
Throughout June and August, families can call the Family Food Hotline 1-888-4-FOOD-WA to receive up-to-date information about locations for free lunches for kids across the state.
Lunch sites are located at schools or facilities with a greater than 50% rate of free and reduced-price lunch enrollment. This program is part of the Simplified Summer Feeding Program and is funded by the USDA.
